Edgar degas is a wonderful artist. I love his pitiful picture LAbsinthe. It didnt receive good reviews at the cartridge clip of its showing, still I love it. The composition in the photograph is artist Marcellin Desboutin and the charr is actress Ellen Andree. The word-painting gained around reputation because the population in it were nearly-known. The woman in the picture is painting with manakin of a glazed look on her represent and the provide in front of her bulge outs to hold off absinthe. The man is arrant(a) arrive at of the canvas but his glass appears to contain coffee. Because these two were considered un-moral and the woman was drinking, the picture was perceived as arduous to t to each one some moral lesson. In fact, this was not the case. Degas simply attempt to capture a moment in beat that he thought captured the sense of loneliness and closing off that was so customary in France at that time. The painting did not serve its purpose, however, an d make the English further look rectify upon the French for soak up and being immoral. To contrast this, but at the same time complement it, I chose The Gleaners, by Jean-Francois Millet. It also seeks to capture a sense of isolation, but in a different tender class. It shows three women stooped everyplace picking up leftovers from harvest-festival time. It did not go over well when it was shown either.

The critics felt that it was contaminating and low-class. The pic of these women was an all too authoritative reminder that the goal they so cherished was built upon the backs of hoi polloi like this. They ar depicted without either sense of grind or community. They a! re simply working. They dont appear to be to laborher in any way. They might realise been complete strangers that however happened to be standing near each other. The painting is dour in its reality and stark depiction of the sink class. Millet a great deal chose to paint lower class people working. He doesnt seek to clean them up or add any redeeming qualities. He was just painting what he saw. References Pioch, Nicholas.
